IML - Luxembourg
Marche de L'Armée Luxembourgeoise
"Marche de L'Armée Luxembourg" was the IML march in Luxembourg.
For many years, Marche de L'Armée Luxembourg was a popular event in Luxembourg. It took place in the mountainous area around the town of Diekirch in May each year.
Organized by the Luxembourg Defense, the march spanned two days, offering participants a unique opportunity to explore the stunning mountainous region around Diekirch.
With the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, the Luxembourg Defense chose to stop organizing the march due to economic reasons. A civilian association stepped in and took over the event, which was renamed "Marche Internationale De Diekirch".
Normally, between 8000 and 9000 people participate in the march, with approximately 40% being military personnel. In recent years, there has been a significant presence of over 2000 participants from the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.
Diekirch offers an incredibly beautiful landscape with lush greenery and numerous hills, providing participants with a challenging yet highly rewarding experience during the march!
Accommodation in Diekirch can be challenging due to the limited number of hotel rooms. Therefore, a military tent camp has been set up where participants can stay at a reasonable price.
It is highly recommended to take part in this march, although it should be noted that Luxembourg is one of the most expensive countries to travel in Europe.
Luxembourg offers a mix of modern and historical attractions, including the impressive Castles, the picturesque Grund district, and the charming Livigno Nature Reserve. Visitors can enjoy delicious local specialties such as Riesling wine and Ardennes Ham in the cozy restaurants.
There is also the opportunity to explore the impressive Bock Quarter and its underground tunnels, providing a fascinating insight into Luxembourg's history.
Outdoor enthusiasts will love the Mullerthal Trail, known as "Little Switzerland," with its spectacular limestone cliffs and lush forests.
Whether you are interested in culture, nature, or military history, Luxembourg has something for everyone!
