“Schweizerischer Zweitagemarsch” is the IML march in Switzerland

This walking event made a remarkable comeback in 2009 after a two-year break. The revival of this international march was a pleasant surprise as many had thought it had ceased to exist.

The march is organized by the Swiss Army - I have never before been on a march where even the slightest road crossing was directed by Military Police.

Formerly commencing in Belp, a quaint suburb just 5 km from Bern, the march has in recent years embraced a new route starting and concluding in the heart of Bern.

There are many military teams participating, especially German and Swiss teams.

The first day followed a route in the beautiful mountain surroundings outside the city, while the second day a large part of the route was within Bern. You pass through the beautiful city center, past the Parliament and follow the river that runs through the city – a very nice and interesting rute!

The first year our accommodations was in a large underground bunker, which housed a field hospital, command station, and lodging for many of the city's residents - a quite exciting experience.

Walkers consistently endorse this march for its challenging yet rewarding nature, drawing participants from various parts of the globe. Exploring the picturesque Swiss landscapes, bonding with fellow marchers, and experiencing the meticulously organized event await those partaking in this renowned two-day march in Switzerland.
